About Jim Loretta

 

Jim Loretta has been in education since 1969. He taught English and history for 19 years, was a Student Assistance Counselor in the Cherry Hill School District in New Jersey from 1989 to 2001, and finished his career from 2002 to 2006 as the In-School Support Supervisor for Cherry Hill East High School. He has also studied martial arts for the past 37 years.Travel in Japan, Okinawa and India in the 1980s eventually led him to expand his studies into Chinese medicine, shiatsu, and feng shui.

He won a 2004 National Character Education Citation for his unique approach in the In-School Support Program, successfully applying feng shui within the traditional school setting, and has had articles dealing with this subject published in The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Courier Post, the Summer 2004 issue of the Student Assistance Journal, and will have an article on “Plants and Feng Shui: Bringing Nature into the Classroom” in the Fall 2006 issue of this same journal. He has written for Qi: The Journal of Traditional Eastern Health and Fitness on the hidden energies behind feng shui and why it works in schools, which was the subject of his presentations at the 2005 Association of Student Assistance Professionals State Convention and the 2006 National Student Assistance Convention in San Francisco. He will be published again in the Fall issue of Qi Journal on the science behind tai chi and chi gong and why they create health. He has also co-authored More Than A Bathroom Guide To Baby Boomers, a 60 year history of his generation, which was featured as part of a documentary about the baby boomer generation on South Korean PBS in May of 2006.
